Onion Bhaji







    Ingredients                                          Method





      1 medium onion, halved and sliced                   Mix the flour, spices and salt in a bowl.

                                                          Gradually mix in enough water to make
      100g plain flour
                                                          a quite thick, sticky batter. Add the
                                                          onions and mix well.
      1 tsp baking powder
                                                          Heat the oil to 180C. To check if the oil is
                                                          hot enough, drop in a little of the batter.
      1 tsp chili powder
                                                          It should start sizzling immediately, but
      1 tsp ground cumin                                  not too much.

                                                          Form the batter into 6 balls. Deep fry for
      1 tsp ground turmeric                               2 minutes, turning halfway through.
